2020 Grizzly EPS At a recent event, we had the opportunity to set some sitting times on the Yamaha Grizzly EPS SE 2020. It was just a short drive, so a full review will have to wait until we spend some more time on it, but here are our early impressions of Yamaha’s flagship ATV. What sets the SE apart from the rest of the grizzly family is a WARN Pro Vantage 2500 winds installed at the factory and 27-inch Maxxis Zilla tires. Although not exactly a hardcore mess machine, the Yamaha Grizzly EPS SE 2020 is better equipped for the mud than all but a select couple of ATVs.
This isn’t Yamaha’s first ATV with a mid focus. It had been a while, but back in 2009, we checked the Yamaha Big Bear 400. It’s a smaller machine and it had no winds, but it came stock from the factory with 25-inch ITP Mud Lite tires. The Big Bear 400 was a trail machine that encouraged you to take over the mud once in a while without worrying about getting stuck. The same applies to the Yamaha Grizzly EPS SE of 2020 – only bigger and better.
The Maxxis Zilla tires on the SE are two inches larger than the Mud Lites on the Great Bear and offer significantly improved traction in the mud compared to the tires on the non-SE Grizzlies. At the same time, you don’t get punished if you drive them on smoother and firmer paths, as you would with ultra-aggressive mud tires. Despite the higher 27-inch size, the Zilla tires are relatively light, helping to reduce the rotating mass with power consuming.
The conditions were fairly smooth and unpleasant during our test, but in 2020 Grizzly EPS found it hard to find traction everywhere, staying pretty playful to slip the back edge around the corners. The only muddy areas we connected were quite moderate, but the takeover of the Zillas was never a problem – wheel rotation was virtually non-existent.

While the new tires and winds are nice additions, the rest of the SE is all grizzly. The power comes from a 686cc single-cylinder engine optimized for 2020 Grizzly EPS with redesigned engine mounts and improved overall performance. We’re not sure we’ve spent enough time on the SE noticing these changes compared to 2018, but it’s still a big performer being built to last.
Another Yamaha feature we expect is the Ultramatic Transmission. The ultra-TV transmission has a busy switch and has high and low areas as well as a reverse gear. Inside hides a centrifugal clutch that maintains constant belt tension. It’s the definition of a bulletproof design and Yamaha secures the belt with a 10-year warranty.
Yamaha’s On-Command 4WD drive, which allows you to switch between 2WD, 4WD, limited slip 4WD and fully sealed differential 4WD. Other features of the Yamaha Grizzly EPS SE 2019 include a high-input air inlet, stainless steel exhaust, four-wheeled hydraulic disc brakes, 11.3 inches terrain, dual safety belt, front and rear suspension, electronic steering, front and rear load, and Towing capacity 1300 kg.

Yamaha’s most useful ATVs include the Kodiak 700 and Kodiak 450, while the Yamaha ATV sports line again includes the Raptor 700R and the YFZ450R as well as the corresponding youth models, the Raptor 90 and the YFZ50.

The new Grizzly ™ 2020 Grizzly EPS combines smooth, fast and fast rotary power with increased midrange and improved acceleration with a further 6% reduction in gear shifts. New 700-Class Engine For 2020 Grizzly EPS, Yamaha engineers have increased the performance of the great Grizzly EPS drill even further, with more usable performance. Grizzly now operates a new liquid-cooled 686cc engine with improved engine response and lower vibration, noise, and fuel economy compared to the current 708cc engine.
To achieve this, a number of internal engine changes have been made, including revised drilling and lifting dimensions, a low-rise cylinder – cast iron were cast iron and the cast piston is now a forging piece. A new air intake improves engine performance, especially in the important mid-range, while the newly designed engine mounts ensure even smoother operation.
The ultra-TV transmission of the new Yamaha powertrain now has different CVT weights and gearbox ratios suitable for each model. The system still has a dual-range, back-to-back fenced shifter and is the most advanced — and longest-lasting — CVT propulsion system. An automatic centrifugal clutch ensures constant belt tension with reduced tape wear and a spray clutch ensures natural all-wheel-drive engine braking.
New Instrument Pack For 2020, the Grizzly EPS will receive a new combination cluster of larger all-LCD readings for visibility. Yamaha’s three-stage On-Command® 4WD system allows you to switch between 2WD, limited, limited-edition 4WD, and a fully locked differential 4WD at the touch of a button. An override button allows the engine to reach maximum speed in full-dip cable mode, and a straight drive layout eliminates U joints for reduced friction, noise, vibration and maintenance.
High-mounted air intakes tackle sludge and water thanks to the grizzly’s high-mounted air intakes. The design increases performance and torque, providing additional space for onboard storage and easy, tool-less maintenance of the foam air filter. To maintain clean, high-performance over years, the Grizzly EPS uses a stainless steel exhaust system and has screen radioprotection for great performance with minimal noise yield.
High-performance cooler long-performance technical driving can place a lot of thermal demands on a liquid-cooled engine, so the Grizzly EPS has a powerful cooler with fan support that has a lot of Airflow for maximum cooling power provides — and it is positioned high in the frame for optimal protection.
