2018 Textron Off Road Alterra 500 4×4
2018 Textron Off Road Alterra 500 4×4 Early in 2017 Textron announced that it had purchased the Arctic Cat brand. So for a little while, current model AC ATV’s and UTV’s will go by both names. On the other hand, the Bad Boy Offroad name has also changed to Textron. The overall size of this 700 is larger than most 1000s. It’s not overly heavy, it just has large, full coverage bodywork that stands out. The seat hight is about an inch taller than most big bore machines. The right side of the bodywork lets out a lot of engine heat you can feel on your leg. The dash is simple but full of information like temperatures, fuel level, speeds, distances and more.
Single-lever brakes are used on the Altera. They are very difficult to handle under pressure. When you need to stop hard, the rear part locks in place from the front. Until then the front end dives what is not good. Motor braking is only good if belt tension is maintained at the damper input.
With 700 engines, Alterra did not fail in the power department. It was fast and rarely had to be changed to low when the trails were steep. The Alterra chassis has a very light steering system and wide steering wheels. For a fast ride you need to use English. The traction is uneven and the rear of the tyre seems to be slimming more than the front, even with four-wheel drive. The suspension is good at low speed, but not when driving hard. The rear shock absorber determines the limits earlier than the front.
Being in the chassis and 4×4 catagory engine we have at our disposal a wide range of engine and chassis sizes, which we currently see in the group of our favorites from every brand. The machines will be compared with the $10,000 brand and not with a specific shift. The shear force will not be predominant, although we have paid particular attention to the power sensitivity, the low gripping range and the overall smoothness of the operation. Each machine will be assessed in terms of its suitability for work and play. They were all evaluated in the same chair as the trousers, on technical and smooth routes, as well as around the working ranch. In comparison, we will explain why we evaluated each section as we did.
